St. John Fisher Is Victorious Over Penn State Behrend

ERIE, PA - The St. John Fisher University wrestling team was on the road on Friday as they kicked off their weekend with a dual match against Penn State Behrend. The Cardinals competed hard and were able to come away with the 38-12 victory. The results moves Fisher to 4-4 on the season.

The competition kicked off with the 133 weight-class and Mason Welch represented the Cardinals. Welch came away with the 16-5 Major decision to move the team in front 4-0. After a forfeit by Penn State in the 141, Mason Wersinger , Joshua Maslyn and Logan Palmeri all won their matches by pin-fall. Wersinger in the 149 pinned his opponent at 0:46. Maslyn in the 157 achieved his at 1:07, and Palmeri at 165 tallied his pin at 1:28. In the 174, Zachary Miller earned a major decision victory by a score of 17-9. Jack Lestrange in the 197 earned a victory by pin-fall and it helped secure the 38-12 victory for the Cardinals.

Up next for Fisher is the JCC Open, hosted by Jamestown Community College. The event is slated to begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29.
