Brockport Wrestling Finishes 2-1 at Saturday's WPI Duals

Worcester, MA - On Saturday, the Golden Eagles wrestling team competed at the WPI Duals, hosted by Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). They went 2-1 on the day, with wins over the University of Southern Maine and host WPI. Brockport's only loss came to No. 2 Johnson & Wales.

Brockport 24, Southern Maine 16

Liam Bullock was uncontested in the 125 division, scoring six team points for a win by forfeit.

Elijah Sims stepped up to earn an 8-5 decision victory at 149 to grab three more points for the Green and Gold.

Matthew Kline added another three points for the team with his 6-3 decision over his foe in the 165-weight class.

At 174, Jared Zenie also won by decision, 5-3, to earn Brockport three more points.

Gavin McLaughlin joined his teammates with a decision victory, 4-1, at 184.

In 2:34, Michael Sullivan got the win by way of a fall in the 197 division to help seal the win over Southern Maine.

Brockport 9, #2 Johnson & Wales 28

Elijah Sims snagged another win in the 149-weight class, earning a 7-2 decision against his opponent from Johnson & Wales.

Matthew Kline also improved to 2-0 on the day with a, 5-1, sudden victory at 165.

With a 9-4 decision in the 197-weight division, Michael Sullivan also got his second win of the day for Brockport.

Brockport 25, WPI 13

In the final match of the day, Liam Bullock got the job done at 125 with a 9-2 decision victory.

Elijah Sims completed the 3-0 sweep of his opponents in the 149-weight class out in Massachusetts. He got the win by fall in just 1:29 in his final bout of the day.

Francis Whitehouse dominated his matchup in the 157 division, earning four points by way of a 13-1 major decision.

Gavin McLaughlin would get his second win of the weekend, thanks to a 15-9 decision for three more team points.

Michael Sullivan completed his Saturday a perfect 3-0, earning a 5-1 decision to close the day.

In the 285 division, Joe Yanis got his first victory of the trip by a fall in 1:29 of action.

The Golden Eagles are now 6-4 on the season in dual competition. They now prepare for the first home dual of the year against RIT on Wednesday, February 1st. The team will be celebrating Senior Day, as the action begins at 7pm.
