FAIRFAX, VA - Six University at Buffalo wrestlers advanced to Day Two at the Mid-American Conference Championships hosted by George Mason University on Friday. Unfortunately, the Bulls won't have any wrestlers vying for a MAC title tomorrow, but they'll have several chances to earn spots on the podium.

Sam Mitchell won his quarterfinal match against SIUE's Ryan Yarnell, 7-4, to advance to the semifinals at 197. However, the redshirt-junior had a tall task in the semis as he faced top-seed Ethan Laird of Rider. It was a one-point match in the third period, before Laird got a late takedown to win, 5-2. Mitchell will be back in action tomorrow.

Giuseppe Hoose won his first match of the day, 3-1, over Edinboro's Jack Kilner in the 184-pound bracket. However, in the quarterfinals, Hoose dropped a 7-5 sudden victory to Colin Fegley of Lock Haven. Hoose was able to rebound to win his first match in the consolation bracket, 7-4, over Rider's Isaac Dean and will be back in action on Saturday.

After receiving a first-round bye, Michael Petite lost a 6-4 sudden victory to George Mason's Peter Pappas in the quarterfinals at 157. He won his first match in the consolation bracket, 7-5 over Rider's Colton Washleski, to advance to Saturday action.

Jack Marlow is having a solid debut in his first MAC Championships. The sophomore won his first match 6-3 over Sean Logue of Lock Haven to advance to the quarterfinals. He dropped his next match but rebounded to win his consolation match 11-10 over eight-seed Jimmy Nugent of Central Michigan and will wrestle again Saturday.

Marcus Petite, also making his first trip to the MAC Championships, dropped his opening match at 165. But he was able to win his first match in the consolation bracket by defeating Rider's Hunter Mays, 6-2, and will compete on Saturday as well.

After receiving a bye to the quarterfinals, Jay Nivison dropped a close match to Central Michigan's Alex Cramer, 2-1, in his opener in the 174-pound bracket. However, he bounced back to defeat SIUE's Chase Diehl, 3-2, on the backside to advance to Saturday action.

Elsewhere, Tommy Maddox had an impressive win to open his MAC Championships. He defeated Clarion's Mason Prinkey by tech fall, 17-2. Unfortunately, he dropped his next two bouts to get eliminated.

Eli Sheeran, wrestling at 285, earned one win in the consolation bracket with a 7-0 shutout of Ohio's Jacob Padilla. However, he dropped his next match and was eliminated.

Other Bulls eliminated on Friday were Mason Bush (125) and Kaleb Burgess (149).

Action resumes on Saturday at 11:30 am.
