Weekend Preview: Cardinals Stay Local For SUNYAC Wrestling Championship

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher University wrestling team are competing in the first University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) wrestling championship since 1990-91. The competition will be hosted by RIT on Saturday, Nov. 18 with an anticipated start time of 9:30am.

Rookie of the Week

Braydon Vandenberg was named Wrestling Rookie of the Week this past week. He was incredible in the 197-pound class, working his way to the final match and took second-place. He started the day with a 17-0 technical fall victory and followed that with a pin at 2:44. In his third match, he won by a 6-1 final over Gable Crebs of Lycoming who is ranked no. 9 in the weight class. Vandenberg advanced to take on Jaedyn Harris, who is ranked no. 14 in 197 by NWCA, in the final. The two went the distance and Vandenberg fell 5-3 to take second-place.

Last Time Out

The Cardinals compete din the W&J Invitational last weekend and had some stand out performances. Daniel Parkulo competed in the 125-pound weight class and took home a third-place finish. After a first round bye, he recorded a pin at 2:32 in his first match. He followed that with another pin at 3:34, before falling in the semi-final bout. In his third-place match, he defeated his opponent by a 17-2 technical fall to secure his position.?

Torin Bishop earned a fourth-place finish in the 149-pound weight class. After a first round bye, he defeated his first opponent by pin in just 1:10. The next round he won by aa 17-0 technical fall. After dropping the semi-final match, the Cardinal fell by major decision to take home fourth place.
