RIT finishes third at SUNYAC Championships

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - RIT sophomore Lee Rubin won the 125-lb. weight class to help the Tigers to a third place finish at the 2023 SUNYAC Championships, Saturday.

The No. 2 seed, Rubin defeated No. 7 Billy Colloca (Oneonta) with a fall at 2:02 in his opening match. He beat No. 3 Christian Lievano (Cortland) in the semifinals and defeated No. 4 Daniel Parkulom (St. John Fisher), 13-7 in the finals.

Junior Mike Glynn III placed second at 149 lb. He defeated Utica's Eddie Corporan with a fall at :53 in his opening bout. Top-seeded Glynn defeated Torin Bishop (St. John Fisher) with a fall at 3:53 in the quarterfinals, beat No. 4 Nicholas Noto (Cortland), 5-2 in the semifinals before having to pull out of the finals.

First-year Jared Lee placed third, defeating Nicholas Noto (Cortland), 9-7 in the third-place match.

First-year Marek Bush beat Trevor Sheehan (St. John Fisher) with a fall :43 into his opening match at 157 lb. He took down No. 2 Hunter Hughes (Cortland) with a 14-3 major decision in the quarterfinals and beat No. 6 Max Yahre (Oneonta), 4-1 in the semifinals before falling to No. 1 Wenchard Pierre-Louis (Ithaca) 11-3 in the finals.

Junior Liam Strouse finished second at 165 lb., going 3-1. After a bye, top-seeded Strouse defeated Cole Wheat (Cortland) with an 18-1 technical fall. He beat Aaron Nelson (Ithaca) with a fall at 2:32 in the quarterfinals, defeated No. 5 Nick Ross 5-1 in the semifinals before falling to No. 2 Konrad Parker (Ithaca) 11-4 in the finals.

Junior Ben Dougherty finished third at 184 lb, while first-year Bryson Vaughn (141 lb.) and junior Logan Patterson (133 lb.) each placed fourth.

RIT returns to action on Saturday (Dec. 2) at the RIT Invitational at 9:00 a.m.
