Buffalo's Kranitz Reaches Finals, Petite Places Fourth at the Black Knight Invite

BUFFALO, NY - Action continued for the University at Buffalo wrestling team on Sunday as they competed at the Black Knight Invite on Sunday at West Point. The day was highlighted by Chase Kranitz finishing second at 184 and Marcus Petite taking fourth at 174.

Kranitz opened the day with a dominant tech fall over LIU's Joseph Lopresti. Krantiz needed only 1:01 to win, 15-0. After a forfeit in the quarterfinals, Kranitz upset third-seeded Jhaquan Anderson of Gardner-Webb, 4-2, to advance to the finals. In the finals, Kranitz dropped a close sudden victory to Penn State's Josh Barr.

Petite got off to a strong start. He opened with a 5-3 decision over Gardner-Webb's Samuel Mora. He followed with a 10-3 decision over Penn State's Brian Borden. However, in the semifinals he dropped a 10-4 decision to Shane Cartegena-Walsh of Rutgers.

Nick Stampoulos also advanced to the quarterfinals for the Bulls.

"It was a tough road trip, but a road trip we needed as we continue to progress," head coach John Stutzman said. "The guys continue to fight hard and next week will be a great week of recovery."
