ITHACA, N.Y. -- Six athletes with ties to the Cornell wrestling program will compete at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials on Friday and Saturday, April 19-20, at the Bryce Jordan Center in State College, Pa.

Current freshman Meyer Shapiro (74kg) and former Big Red wrestlers Yianni Diakomihalis (65kg), Nahshon Garrett (65kg), Kyle Dake (74kg) and Phil Moomey (60kg Greco Roman) qualified for the event, which determines the country's representatives for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris. Nick Gwiazdowski (125kg), an assistant coach for the Big Red, will also compete in the tournament.

Dake earned an automatic berth to the best-of-three championship on Saturday night by medaling at the 2023 Senior World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. The four-time NCAA champion claimed the bronze medal at 74kg at the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Diakomihalis, a four-time NCAA champion, took fourth at 57kg at the 2020 Olympic trials. Garrett, a four-time All-American and the 2016 133-pound national champion at Cornell, and Gwiazdowski, a two-time national champion at North Carolina State, have competed in the trials twice (2016 and 2020).

Shapiro, a 2024 NCAA third-place All-American, won the 70kg U20 World Championship in August. Moomey won the 60kg Greco-Roman title at the Last Chance Olympic Team Trials Qualifier, punching his ticket to the tournament.

Wrestling starts on Friday with the first session at 10:30 a.m. and the second at 6:30 p.m. Saturday's sessions will begin at the same times.
