Girls' wrestling is one of the fastest-growing high school sports in New York State.

At the latest New York State Public High School Athletic Association meeting in late July, several key changes were made to make the sport more equitable for its participants.

The biggest changes approved at NYSPHSAA's Central Committee meeting was the authorization to have girls' wrestling go from folkstyle to freestyle, and to upgrade the sport to have a full state championship.
