January 29, 2017

GROVE CITY - With wrestling's postseason just around the corner, the Fred Bell Tournament serves as many teams' one-stop shop in preparation for the upcoming grind that ends at the Giant Center in Hershey.

With 36 teams and countless district, region and state qualifiers competing on the mat, competition is fierce.

...

A pair of Mercer County wrestlers - Sharpsville's Nick Enos and Jamestown's Khalil Messai - made to the finals, but neither could secure Fred Bell gold.

At 182 pounds, Messai took an early 2-0 lead with a first-period takedown, but was taken down himself by Byron-Bergen's Will Thompson in the second period.

After starting in the down position, Messai was able to escape about 17 seconds into the third period, but Thompson secured the victory with a takedown about a minute later.
