Horseheads, Elmira wrestlers start strong
December 03, 2017

Last season, Horseheads and Elmira High School were two of the top wrestling teams in the Southern Tier Athletic Conference. So far, so good this season for both.

Horseheads escaped two days of wrestling at Horseheads Middle School with a perfect 6-0 record Saturday, opening its season by taking the title at the ninth annual Mark Stephens Wrestling Classic. Camden took second at 6-1 and Johnson City was third at 5-2.

Elmira, which tied for third place at last season's STAC meet, traveled to the Rochester area Saturday for its first action and produced a second-place finish out of 20 teams at the Matthew Marino Tournament at Webster High School. Fairport won the championship.
