Olean, Pioneer wrestlers eye medals in Albany; Huskies and Panthers have winning history at state
February 22, 2018

Combined, Olean and Pioneer have five wrestlers competing this weekend at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships, which open this morning at the Times Union Center in Albany.

With the exception of Pioneer 220-pounder Mike Rigerman, who won the Section 6 title, all earned the state trip as wild cards (sectional runners-up or third-place finishers). However, if history is any indication, the Huskies and Panthers have a good chance of making the podium in Division 2.

Olean is represented at states for the eighth straight year. Over the last seven years, coach Mike O'Connor has had 11 state qualifiers, seven of whom placed.
