February 25, 2018

ITHACA, N.Y. - The College at Brockport wrestling team saw three wrestlers qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships this weekend at the NCAA Regional Tournament. Jonathan Haas, Sean Peacock, and Triston Engle all finished in the top two of their respective weight classes, earning their tickets to the National Tournament in Cleveland, Ohio on March 9th and 10th.

Haas took first place in the 125-lb weight class for the second straight season, as the senior continues to dominate in 2017-18. After an opening round bye, Haas earned wins by fall, technical fall, and major decision over opponents from Oneonta, Oswego and Stevens. In the championship bout, Haas defeated Ithaca's Ferdinan Mase in a tough 2-1 decision to move to 35-1 on the season and secure his spot in NCAA Nationals.

Peacock will make his first appearance in the National Tournament this year after winning the 149-lb weight class with four straight wins. The Phelps, N.Y. native rolled through each of his opponents with ease, beating two opponents by major decision and the other two by fall and technical fall. In the championship bout against the No. 2 seed from the College of New Jersey, Peacock put an exclamation point on his Mideast Regional dominance, winning easily by a score of 13-5.

Triston Engle will also make another trip to NCAA Nationals this season after a fourth place finish a year ago. The junior finished second in the 197-lb weight class, falling only to Etiini Udott of the College of New Jersey in a tight dual decided by sudden victory. Engle continued his dominant streak of pinning his opponents, winning three bouts by fall in this tournament.

The Golden Eagles finished in fifth place as a team in this tournament with 87.5 points, and will look to improve upon their eighth place finish at last year's National Tournament. Tournament seeding and information will become available in the coming weeks ahead of the March 9th start.
