Brockport State Dominates First Day Of Nationals

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The College at Brockport wrestling team got off to a fantastic start to their NCAA National Tournament, as all three Golden Eagles wrestlers advanced to the semifinals of their respective weight classes, and have secured All-American status. After day one of the tournament, the team is ranked sixth in the country with 25 points.

No. 3 Jonathan Haas started his day with a 7-0 decision over Nick Barbaria from Roger Williams University. That win earned him a bout against Baldwin Wallace's Christopher Doyle, whom he beat in a tight 4-3 decision. He'll now square off with the No. 2 ranked wrestler in the nation, Jay Albis of Johnson and Wales in tomorrow mornings session.

Sean Peacock will be an All-American for the first time in his career after winning both of his bouts today to advance to the semifinals of the 149-lb weight class. He opened his day with a dominant 19-8 major decision over Baldwin Wallace's Stanley Bleich, before winning his quarterfinal bout over Evan Drill of NYU by sudden victory. He'll square off with No. 3 Gregory Warner of York tomorrow morning for a chance to wrestle for a national title.

Triston Engle will also have a chance to earn his spot in the championship bout of the 197-lb weight class tomorrow morning when he faces No. 2 Guy Patron of Loras College in the semifinals. He earned his spot in that semifinal by winning a pair of bouts by decision; first defeating Baldwin Wallace's Tyler Maclellan 6-0 before surviving a tight 5-4 bout against Waynesburg's Ken Burrs.
