March 10, 2018

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The College at Brockport wrestling team wrapped up their 2017-18 season today, finishing 16th in the NCAA National Tournament. Jonathan Haas, Sean Peacock, and Triston Engle all received All-American status, each finishing in the top six of their respective weight classes.

No. 3 Jonathan Haas started his tournament with a 7-0 decision over Nick Barbaria from Roger Williams University. That win earned him a bout against Baldwin Wallace's Christopher Doyle, whom he beat in a tight 4-3 decision. In the semifinals, he took a narrow 4-3 loss to No. 2 Jay Albis from Johnson and Wales to move into the consolation end of the bracket. He earned a spot in the third place bout with a 9-6 decision over No. 1 Clarren Pestano of Central College, but settled for fourth after dropping another tight bout, 3-2.

Sean Peacock is All-American for the first time in his career after winning both of his bouts on the opening day of the tournament to advance to the semifinals of the 149-lb weight class. He opened his nationals debut with a dominant 19-8 major decision over Baldwin Wallace's Stanley Bleich, before winning his quarterfinal bout over Evan Drill of NYU, 14-11. Despite a hard fought semifinal dual, he fell to York's Gregory Warner before conceding his next two bouts by medical forfeit to claim sixth in the weight class.

Triston Engle earned his spot in the semifinal of the 197-lb weight class by winning a pair of bouts by decision; first defeating Baldwin Wallace's Tyler Maclellan 6-0 before surviving a tight 5-4 bout against Waynesburg's Ken Burrs. On day two, he dropped three straight bouts, all by one point decisions to settle for sixth overall. His top eight finish secured his second straight All-American finish, with another season still to go for the junior.
