Brockport Takes Third In John Summa Invitational

BROCKPORT, N.Y.—The College at Brockport wrestling team competed in the John Summa Invitational at Baldwin Wallace University. At the end of the competition, the Golden Eagles took home third place with 109.0 points as a unit.

125-Pound Weight Class

Matt Caccamise led the way for the Green and Gold, taking home third place. He kicked off with a dominating 23-6 win be technical fall, before battling to earn his second victory 7-5 in double overtime. After losing his third bout, Caccamise defeated his next opponent in a 10-6 decision to finish in third place. Parker Rozler win his first bout as well in 1-0 fashion before dropping his next battle. He picked up his second win with a 9-5 decision before earning his way to the fifth place match with a fall at 1:08. Unfortunately he couldn't come up with the win and settled for sixth place in the competition.

133-Pound Weight Class

John Cantwell and Donny McCoy found themselves battling each other in the fifth place match. McCoy lost his first match of the day, but quickly bounced back to win four consecutive bouts. The run started with a quick win by pin fall at 0:29, before taking a major decision, 9-1. His third straight win occurred in the form of a 7-0 decision, before defeating his teammate 8-0. Cantwell kicked off his day with a 15-4 major decision win, but dropped his second battle. Similarly to McCoy, Cantwell bounced back and won his next two bout with a 7-1 decision and 10-1 major decision.

141-Pound Weight Class

Zack Barker's first bout ended in victory thanks to a 10-4 decision. After losing his second battle, Barker showed resilience as well, rattling off four straight wins including back-to-back pins. The first came in 0:52, while the second ended in 4:16. Barker followed up those performances with back-to-back decisions, 11-4 and 9-2. Unfortunately, the momentum stopped there as he lost his final match and took home sixth place.

149-Pound Weight Class

Ryan Snow had an impressive showing in this invitational, taking third place off of a variety of finishes. The first battle ended in a 12-1 major decision in Snow's favor, before winning a close 6-5 decision in his second bout. Up next was a win via pin in 4:04 before then losing the semifinal match and settling for a third place match. Snow competed hard and took home the third place finish thanks to a pin at 4:20.

184-Pound Weight Class

Bryce Rowe earned a sixth place finish in the competition after working his way to the fifth place bout. His first match came in a quick pin victory, coming in 1:33. Despite his loss in the second match, he earned back-to-back victories thanks to a technical fall and a 2-1 decision. He came up short in the final battle and took sixth place.

197-Pound Weight Class

Joe Yanis followed a similar trend to Rowe, taking a sixth place finish in his weight class. Yanis earned a victory in his first bout in a close 2-0 decision. He then rattled off consecutive victories including a fall at 1:43 and a 3-1 overtime sudden victory.
