Phoenix wrestler Ross McFarland keeps positive attitude despite ankle injury
February 19, 2019

In the first 10 seconds of his 182-pound match against Jack Bailey of Onondaga-Tully, Ross McFarland attempted to pick up Bailey, but his opponent's body weight inadvertently shifted and slammed right down on his leg.

McFarland, the defending state champion at 170 pounds, heard his ankle pop and instantly knew something was wrong. After getting taped by his coaches, McFarland still won the match by pin, improving to 40-0. But it came at a cost. After the match, he tried to put weight on his leg and collapsed straight to his knee.
