Section 9 wrestling coaches believe the state will take a step backward if a recent motion to eliminate the 99-pound weight class is approved for the 2019-2020 season.

The state wrestling committee voted 8-3 to remove 99 pounds from all competitions during a meeting Tuesday. The fate of the weight class is now in the hands of the state's executive committee, which will vote on the motion in July.
