1962-1963 Jamestown Red Raiders
WRESTLING. This was the first year of wrestling competition on the JHS athletic roster, and the desire of our boys to get out on the mats and grapple was shown with a turnout of fifty-five eager to join the squad. From these, twenty-five mat men were chosen, in lightweight and heavyweight divisions. Their first events were two scrimmages with Falconer, both won by our more-experienced opponents. Coach Russell Abbott sent some of the better boys to sectional competition. SOURCE: 1963 Red and Green.
