Two-time state champion Kellen Devlin of Amherst is among 14 wrestlers from Western New York still in contention for championships after the first day of the New York State Public High School Championship in the Times Union Center in Albany.
Devlin, wrestling in the 132-pound class, scored two decisive decisions on Friday to advance to Saturday's semifinals. He scored a major decision, 10-0, over T.J. Philpotts of Holland Patent (Section III) before a 13-2 major decision over Jared Eliopoulos of Putnam Valley-I. He will face Brandon Gould of Watkins Glen-IV in the semifinals.
