MOUNT PLEASANT, MI - The University at Buffalo wrestling team won three of the first four matches against Central Michigan, but it wasn't enough as the Bulls lost to the 17th-ranked Chippewas, 26-9, at McGuirk Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Kyle Akins led things off with a 4-0 shutout of Drew Hildebrandt at 125 to give the Bulls a 3-0 lead in the dual.
Bryan Lantry followed with a 2-1 win over Dresden Simon. Lantry's win improved the redshirt-junior to 7-3 in duals on the season.
After Jason Estevez dropped a decision at 141, Nick Palumbo earned his first career Mid-American Conference dual win with a dominant 6-3 decision over Nolan Saxton. Palumbo's win gave the Bulls a 9-3 lead.
Unfortunately, the Chippewas flexed their muscle the rest of the way, winning the final six matches to pull away for the victory.
Buffalo fell to 5-7 overall and 2-2 with the loss. The Bulls will next wrestle at Hofstra on Saturday.
