FARGO, ND — Avon's Joye Levendusky placed 4th in the Junior division at the Fargo National Championships on July 17-18th in North Dakota, the highest finish for any New York woman along with teammate Riley Dalrymple from Central NY.
NY entered 35 young women and only 5 made the top 8 to the podium, qualifying them to be All-Americans.
Coming off an injury, Ranked #13 in the country by USA Wrestling, placing 4th was not something anyone expected, especially after not having had a full training regimen. Levendusky had different thoughts.
"I wanted to make the top 4," she said. "I accomplished my goal, and I'm satisfied with that."
Wrestling in the 152-pound class, Levendusky scored dramatic wins along the way, including a comeback win over an Oregon opponent in the Round of 16, a 3-1 battle over NY teammate Kendra Cheers in the consolations, and a 7-5 win over a Washington opponent in the consolation semis to advance to the 3rd place match. She finished 5-2 at Fargo, both losses to the same opponent.
Joye completes her high school career a 3x Fargo All-American and overall 7x All-American at national USA Wrestling events. She also won four NYS titles along the way. She'll attend McKendree University in IL, a top 5 Women's college wrestling program, in the fall.
