With a plethora of familiar faces returning to the lineup, don't be shocked if Iroquois' wrestling team continues to mow down the opposition this winter.
The Chiefs bring back both state tournament participants, along with a host of additional grapplers who helped Iroquois win both the regular-season league title and Section VI Division II championship last year. And with 30 total wrestlers on the squad - and only four seniors among the bunch - it looks like Iroquois' opponents will be waiting a little while longer to get their crack at consistent success.
"We've had a really nice mix in the past where seniors and underclassmen are concerned, and we should have that again this year," coach Troy Almeter said. "We have so many kids who put the time in to be good, solid wrestlers during the offseason, and because of that, we have very few holes in our lineup, outside of the heaviest weight classes. Nearly everyone in our lineup is experienced with very good ability, so needless to say, we're hoping to win the league title again."
