CLEVELAND, OH - University at Buffalo wrestling head coach John Stutzman was named the Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year, the league announced on Wednesday. It marked the first time he has won the award.
Stutzman just completed his sixth and finest season as the head coach of the Bulls. UB went 12-5 in duals on the year, tying the most wins in a season since returning to the Division I ranks in 1998. The Bulls also won a school-record five Mid-American Conference duals. UB's second place finish at last month's MAC Championships was its highest in program history.
Two UB wrestlers won individual titles at the MAC Championships. Troy Keller was the champion at 165 lbs. and Brett Perry won the 197-lb. championship. In total, six Bulls qualified for the NCAA Championships, tying the most since 2011.
Stutzman was previously named a finalist for NWCA Division I National Coach of the Year.
