Win Over #21 Muhlenberg Highlights an Unbeaten Day for Brockport State at WPI Duals

WORCESTER, MA - The SUNY Brockport wrestling team went 3-0 at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute duals on Saturday as the Golden Eagles picked up keys wins over nationally-ranked No. 21 Muhlenberg, Southern Maine and host WPI to remain unbeaten in dual competition this season.

Brockport's dual record improved to 8-0 on the year and legendary 50th year Head Coach Don Murray moved his win total to 359 for his career.

Brockport topped Muhlenberg, ranked No. 21 nationally by InterMat, by the score of 26-13 to open the dual. The Golden Eagles came back with a convincing 36-9 victory over Southern Maine in the second match of the day and they capped the afternoon with a 26-17 victory over host WPI.

Nationally-ranked No. 6 Matt Caccamise won all three matches he entered on the day. He opened with a win in the 133 pound division as he topped Muhlenberg's Joshua Hickey by way of a 7-0 decision. He came back with a dominating technical fall victory in his second match of the day, this time in the 125 pound weight class, as he defeated Antoine Grace (17-1). He then added a second tech. fall when he topped WPI's Christian Chadwick 18-0 in 2:37. Caccamise now holds a record of 22-2 on the season.

Heavyweight Richard Knapp improved his record to 25-1 on the season as he picked up three victories at the duals. He defeated Muhlenberg's Scott Schaeffer by way of major decision in the opener (12-4). He added a pin in his second match of the day against Southern Maine's Jake Peavey (2:33) and he went on to add a decision victory against WPI's Niko Diakides (6-0).

Eli Sims also went 3-0 in the 141 pound weight class. He defeated Muhlenberg's Jackson Karrat by way of a major decision (10-2), and followed that with a 12-0 major decision win over Southern Maine's Kevin Moore. Sims' finished his night with a 10-2 major decision victory over WPI's Carter Lewis.

Christopher Eames also added a 3-0 day for the Golden Eagles. He began the event with a 6-1 decision victory over Muhlenberg's Brian Jamison in the 174 pound weight class. He topped Southern Maine's Raul Gierbolini with a pin at 3:55 and capped the day with a crucial 3-2 decision victory over WPI's Brendan Marion.

Zack Brown went 2-1 on the day. He opened with a key pin at 157 against Muhlenberg's Yonubue Goodall Tanco at the 4:00 marker. He then added a 5-2 decision victory against Southern Maine's Zac Thompson in his second match of the day.

Brockport returns to the mat on Wednesday when the Golden Eagles host RIT for senior day at the Special Events Recreation Center on campus. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
