BROCKPORT, NY -- The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) has announced its 2020 Division III Scholar All-American teams with awards going to 283 individuals representing 80 institutions. Brockport's Matt Caccamise, Chris Eames and Austin Reed earned scholar All-American honors for the Golden Eagles.
Eames finished the season with a 27-13 overall record in the 174 pound weight class for the Golden Eagles. He placed fifth at the NCAA Regionals and also added a third place finish at the John Summa Invite. He also placed fifth at this year's ECWC Championships.
Reed capped his campaign with a 27-15 record in the 149 pound weight class. He earned a seventh place finish at the NCAA Regionals this season and he also placed fourth at the John Summa Invite. Reed won the Mount Union Invitational and also placed third at the season opening Brockport Invitational.
Nationally-ranked No. 5 Matt Caccamise, who was recently named a first-team All-American by the NWCA, finished his season with a 30-2 overall record and placed first in the 125 pound weight class at the NCAA Regionals to punch his ticket to nationals for the second consecutive season. He won the regional title following a thrilling 7-5 sudden victory win over nationally-ranked No. 7 Daniel Ortega of TCNJ. He opened the season with a first place finish at the Brockport Open and he also added tournament victories at the New York College Tournament and the John Summa Invite. He placed second at the New Standard Invite and third at the Mount Union Invitational.
"On behalf of the NWCA and our Board of Directors, I am excited to honor the amazing academic achievement demonstrated by this year's Scholar All-American teams and individuals," said NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer. "Once again, NCAA Division III institutions have demonstrated their commitment to academic excellence with such a high number of individual honorees and schools being represented."
As a team, the Golden Eagles went 9-1 in dual meets this past season as legendary Head Coach Don Murray secured his 50th consecutive winning season. Brockport placed third as a team at the NCAA Regional and also placed second at the New York State College Tournament.
