Syracuse, N.Y. -- New York state high school wrestling teams will have a leaner look for the next two seasons.
The New York State Public High School Athletic Association's central committee on Wednesday approved a two-year trial run of the reduction of scholastic weight classes from 15 to 13. The move, passed on a 28-13 vote, had already been given a thumbs up by the state's wrestling committee.
The committee lopped off the lowest weight class, 99 pounds, and reshaped a few others. Previously, the classifications were 99, 106, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 145, 152, 160, 170, 182, 195, 220, 285.
