HOW TO SCORE THE EMPIRE COLLEGIATE WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Match:
Collegiate wrestling consists of a three-minute period, followed by two, two-minute periods. Wrestlers begin in stand-up neutral positions. A coin decides which contestant has his chose of position in the second period. The wrestler with the choice option can select up, down, or neutral positions, or defer. The participant who does not choose a position in the second period has his choice of up, down, or neutral positions in the third period.
Individual points are earned in the following ways:
Takedown........................................................2 points
Escape.............................................................1 point
Reversal...........................................................2 points
Near fall (back points)......................................2, 3, or 4 points
*Time advantage..............................................1 point
*Time advantage (riding time) is awarded if a wrestler accumulates one minute or more in the advantage position than his opponent does. A maximum of one point is awarded for time advantage regardless of the total time that is accumlated.
A fall, which ends the bout, occurs when any part of both shoulders or part of both scaulae of either wrestler held in contact with the mat for one second. A default occurs when a wrestler is unable to continue for any reason. Penalty points are earned by the offended wrestler when a referee indicates unnecessary roughing, illegal holds, or technical violations according to the infraction penalty table.
In the event that the contestants are tied at the end of three regular periods, they will wrestle a sudden death period a maximum of one minute in length, with no rest between the regular match and the sudden death period. The sudden death period will begin with both wrestlers in the neutral position. The wrestler who scores the first point wins. If no winner has been decided at the end of the first minute sudden death period, two 30-second tiebreaker periods will be wrestled in their entirety. The two 30-second tiebreaker periods will be wrestled in their entirety. The contestant with the greater number of points, or who is awarded a fall, default or disqualification, is declared the winner.
Tournament Scoring (6 places):
1st - 12 points
2nd - 10 points
3rd - 9 points
4th - 7 points
5th - 6 points
6th - 4 points
In addition to placement points, a team will earn advancement points for wrestlers who win matches and advance into the next round on the following basis:
Championship bracket victory ................................ 1 point for each match won
Consolation bracket victory ................................. 1/2 point
Type of Decision:
Fall ........................................................ 2 points
Default ..................................................... 2 points
Forfeit ..................................................... 2 points
Disqualification ............................................ 2 points
Technical fall (win by 15 or more points)
