Four Golden Eagles automatically advance to NCAAs
BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The SUNY College at Brockport hosted Cortland, Ithaca, Oswego, Oneonta, and RIT Saturday, February 19, for the 14th Annual Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) Championship. SUNY Brockport won the championship with a total of 97 points for the third consecutive year, accumulating their eighth title.
The winners of the 10 weight classes, plus 9 additional wild cards, selected by the head coaches at the conclusion of the wrestling, advance to the NCAA Division III Championships, March 4-5, at St. Olaf, Minnesota.
The Golden Eagles finished with four champions who have automatically qualified for the NCAAs. Tony D'Ambra (Caledonia/Caledonia-Mumford) at 133 and Dan Roberts (Bellport/Bellport) at 141 are champions for the second consecutive year, while Willie Weiss (Oxford/Oxford) advances to Nationals at 197 and Pat Bennett (Syracuse/Marcellos) will compete at Nationals at HWT.
The Golden Eagles have two wildcard selections -- Shaheim Bradshaw (Huntington/Huntington) and Pat Hanscomb (Hilton High School/Hilton) -- who will also be traveling to St. Oalf.
