No. 4 Brockport defeats Oswego State wrestlers

The Brockport Golden Eagles won seven of the 10 bouts and scored a 25-15 win over the Oswego State wrestling team on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at Max Ziel Gymnasium in Oswego.

The fourth-ranked Golden Eagles improved to 4-1 on the season in dual meets. Oswego State, ranked 23rd, is now 5-4-1.

A tech fall win by Brockport's 184-pounder Brett Giehl was key in the victory. Major decisions were also recorded by Shaheim Bradshaw (157) and Donald Williams (165).

Two pins highlighted the night for Oswego State. Freshman Joe Jewett earned six points for the Lakers by pinning Brockport's Justin Kimball in the 133 pound bout in 1:22. Jewett's record is now 22-1 on the season.

At 174 pounds, Laker freshman Craig Becker scored a second period pin of Eric Van Patten to get Oswego State six more points and make the dual-meet score 17-12.

The final Oswego State win was a 7-3 decision victory by Matt Gough over Steve Spiegeleire in the 197 pound match.

Brockport's Rob Vaccaro (125), Deone Williams (141), Don Ooton (149), and Pat Bennett (HWT) earned wins by decision.
