The Golden Eagles (5-1) entered the dual meet ranked sixth in the latest Brute-Adidas National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III poll, the Lakers (5-7) entered the dual meet ranked 29th.
Brockport jumped out to a 22-0 lead with Dan Roberts (Bellport/Bellport) winning by major decision at 141. At 157, Romaine Malcolm (Amityville/Amityville) pinned Leonard Lee at 3:39.
The Lakers got on board when junior Tenkoran Agyeman (Bronx) kept his perfect record in tact. Agyeman, ranked fourth in the nation at 133 pounds, pinned Tony D'Ambra (Caledonia) at 4:10 to improve his record to 25-0 on the season. Dane LaPlante (Carthage) recorded the other win for the hosts at 149 pounds. The freshman scored a 7-5 decision against Dan Song (Smithtown/Hauppauge).
The 165 pounds weight class proved to be the most exciting match of the night. Artie Weidler (Patchogue/Patchogue) scored a late takedown in the third period to edge Oswego State Frank Petrucci (Suffern). Weidler entered the match as the top-rated wrestler in the nation with Petrucci ranked eighth.
Other winners for the Golden Eagles were Rob Cuffie (Bay Shore/Brentwood) at 197 with a pin at 4:03 and Arnold Frost in the heavyweight defeated Jeremy Calkins with a major decision.
Brockport is away this weekend competing in the NYISWC at Nassau (TBA).
