Josh Lancaster seals victory with a fall

Junior Josh Lancaster (Silver Creek, NY/Silver Creek) scored a takedown 1:12 into the 184-pound match and then recorded a pin 15 seconds later to lead the College at Brockport Wrestling team to a 32-9 win over RIT Wednesday night in Tuttle North Gymnasium in Brockport.

Brockport (4-1-1) dropped the first two matches of the evening as RIT's Adam Abdelhamad scored a 9-4 decision at 285 and then RIT's Mike McInally (Byron-Bergen) scored a 9-4 decision over Shawn Hainey (Brentwood, NY/Brentwood). Brockport's Glen DiStefano (Lackawanna, NY/Lackawanna) turned the scoring around with a 16-0 technical fall at the end of the first period to make the match score 6-5 in favor of RIT. Luke Baum (Wayne) scored a 7-0 decision at 141 points to give RIT a 9-5 lead but it was the final points of the night for the Tigers (2-13).

At 149 pounds, Jake Bohn (Watertown, NY/Watertown) turned around a close match midway through the second period. Trailing 3-2, Bohn reversed his opponent and then scored a pair of three-point near falls to take a 10-3 lead into the final period. Bohn opted for the bottom position in the third period and scored a reversal four seconds after the whistle. The freshman then controlled the rest of the match for a 12-3 major decision.

Sophomore Mike Cole (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) jumped out to an early 5-0 lead with a takedown and three near fall points before RIT's Nate Bachmann earned a reverse to cut the lead to 5-3. Trailing in riding time, Bachmann opted to allow Cole an escape and try for the takedown in the closing seconds but time expired with a 6-3 decision for Cole, giving Brockport a 12-9 lead in the dual.

The feature match of the night was at 165 pounds as Brockport senior Shaheim Bradshaw (Huntington, NY/Huntington), ranked No. 2 in the nation, put on an exhibition by scoring 10 takedowns in the match as he earned a technical fall with a 25-9 score at the 6:51 mark.

In the most exciting matchup of the night, Eric VanPatten (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) jumped out to a 5-0 lead with two takedowns and an escape in the first four minutes of the 174-pound match. RIT's Jason Wake battled back with a reverse at the end of the second period and then registered an escape and takedown in the third period to knot the score at 5-5 and force an overtime period. In overtime, VanPatten registered a takedown and a two-point near fall early in the period for a 9-5 decision victory.

Lancaster recorded his pin in the next match and Brockport was awarded a forfeit victory at 197 for the final 32-9 score.
