Brockport Takes Third at Empire Championships

Jordan Dyer and John Wilkinson win individual titles

Freshman Jordan Dyer (Chenango Forks, NY/Chenango Forks) was impressive with a technical fall - 19-4 score in the championship bout at 141 pounds and heavyweight John Wilkinson (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) won a 3-0 decision in his title bout to win the titles at the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) Championships Saturday at Corey Gymnasium in Cortland. Brockport scored 108.5 points to capture third place as a team.

Messiah won the team title with 133 points. Ithaca was second (130.5 points) followed by Brockport (108.5), Cortland (108), Oneonta (106), Lycoming (94), Oswego (72) and RIT (32).

At 141 pounds, Dyer won two decisions by scores of 5-4 and 10-4 and pinned his only other opponent in 4:13 en route to the championship match where he scored the technical fall over Oneonta's Sean Hanson.

At heavyweight, Wilkinson won all four matches by decision with wins of 8-3, 7-4 and 2-1 in overtime before taking the championship 3-0.

At 125 pounds, Matt Ellis (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) finished second with a close 2-0 loss in the championship match. He scored a technical fall, 21-6 win and a 2-0 decision in his first two matches. Tyler Marlow (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) battled back for a third place finish scoring a pin in just 45 seconds in the third place match.

At 133 pounds, James McCabe (Ronkonkoma, NY/Connetquot) took second place winning three decisions - 8-3, 9-5 and 3-2 - before falling in the championship bout.

Aaron Dudley (Hudson Falls, NY/Hudson Falls) was the fifth place finisher for Brockport at 165 pounds.

Nick Joy (Lyndonville, NY/Medina) captured fourth and after an early loss, came back to pin his first two opponents in the consolation bracket, scored 7-2 and 9-5 decisions before falling in the third place match.
