As some regions in the state patiently wait for the scheduled Jan. 4 start date to begin the winter season, the New York State Public High School Athletic Association has decided to cancel all 2021 winter state championship events.
This will be the second straight year those events will not be held in full.

The decision affects bowling, basketball, boys swimming and diving, competitive cheerleading, gymnastics, indoor track, ice hockey, skiing, and wrestling. If there is a season, any postseason play in those sports will be determined at the section level, according to Section 1 executive director Todd Santabarbara.
