Men's Wrestling Returns to the Mat with Dual Against Alfred State

ALFRED, N.Y. - The Elmira College men's wrestling program returned to action for the first time since the early 1970s as the Soaring Eagles faced the Alfred State Pioneers in a dual bout on Wednesday night. Darius Green '24 recorded the first individual victory for the Purple & Gold wrestling at 285 pounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The long-awaited return of men's wrestling at Elmira came to fruition as Mason Cardinale '25 was the first wrestler to hit the mat at 125 pounds for the Purple & Gold. Cardinale put up a strong battle in his first action for the Soaring Eagles.
Blake O'Brien '24 and Hollis Berry '25 made their respective debuts for EC wrestling at 141 pounds and 174 pounds. Alfred State would come out victorious in each of the three contested bouts on the night, securing a pair of pins along with a tech fall.
Green provided a spark for the Soaring Eagles in the final bout of the night as he notched a 5-3 decision against the Pioneers' Nick Barrett. Green controlled the tempo of the heavyweight bout from start to finish before running out the clock against Barrett.
The Purple & Gold also wrestled four exhibition bouts against the Pioneers with Cardinale and Green each recording victories. Cardinale notched a pin of Troy Hayes in his matchup at the 1:50 mark, while Green recorded a pin of his own at the 1:25 mark against Keaton Renfrow.
