Women?s Wrestling Battles Tough in Debut Against East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, PA. - The Elmira College women's wrestling program made its debut on Wednesday as the Soaring Eagles put up a strong showing against East Stroudsburg University in a dual matchup. Maylin Reyes '25 would record a 9-3 decision at 123 pounds to give the Purple & Gold their first individual victory in program history.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Facing the fifteenth-ranked women's wrestling program in NCAA DII, the Soaring Eagles showed up for their inaugural bout with plenty of promise. Reyes celebrated with her teammates after running out the clock and holding off ESU's Alanna Barberio to secure three points and trim the match score to 5-3.
Tiante Murray '25 would notch the first pin for the Soaring Eagles as she delivered five points in her bout at 143 pounds. Murray pinned the Warriors' Cameron Nunez at the two-minute mark to inch the Purple & Gold closer by cutting the deficit to 15-8.
Hazel Dahlquist '25 would make things interesting in the match as she battled the Warriors' Shola Cascen at 191 pounds. Dahlquist found some momentum against Cascen around the two-minute mark of the bout as she pinned her competitor at the 2:38 mark to trim ESU's lead to 20-18.
The Soaring Eagles also notched five points in the match as Skylah Chakouian '25 won her bout at 170 pounds via a forfeit. ESU claimed four individual victories on the night via forfeit to secure the match win.
