Peacock's Pin Not Enough For UB Wrestling; Binghamton Downs Bulls, 24-12

NEWS

BINGHAMTON, NY - Freshman Sean Peacock continued to wrestle at a very high level on Friday night for the Bulls as he earned his third pin in his last six matches but it was not enough as UB was defeated by Binghamton, 24-12. With the loss, Buffalo falls to 5-12 overall and 0-6 in MAC action.

"We wrestled well right out of the gate as Max (Soria) and Sean Peacock gave us big wins right away," said second-year head coach John Stutzman. "We need to wrestle for 420 seconds to give ourselves a chance and we are not doing that right now. When we figure that out we will be more competitive."

The night started out just as planned for the Bulls as they were able to claim three of the first four matches of the dual. Senior captain Max Soria got the Bulls on the board with three points after a dominant second period that saw him outscore David White 9-3. The great second period propelled Soria to the 11-6 decision victory and three quick points for UB.

Peacock was the next Bull to take the mat and he did so with a purpose once again. Riding a five match winning streak which saw him earn two pins and two major decision victories, Peacock stayed hot, pinning Thierno Diallo in the third period to give the Bulls the dominant 9-0 lead after two matches. With the win, Peacock now owns a 19-11 overall record and a team-best 12-5 dual meet record.

After a tough loss for redshirt freshman Colt Cotten at 141-pounds, Jason Estevez returned to action for the first time in a couple of weeks and performed at a high level for the Bulls. Estevez, making the jump up in weight class from 141 to 149, made the most of his opportunity in the starting lineup as he dominanted Nick Tighe, winning with a 11-4 decision. The win for Estevez gave the Bulls the 12-3 lead and gave Estevez 11 wins on the season.

Unfortunetly for the Bulls, the final six matches all went in favor of the home Bearcats as they were able to make the comeback and down UB by the score of 24-12.

UB returns to the mat on Sunday at 1:00 pm as they will welcome MAC foe Eastern Michigan to Alumni Arena. The match will be UB's final home dual of the season as seniors Wally Maziarz and Max Soria will be honored before the match as part of Senior Day.
