Elmira Men's Wrestling Records Four Sixth-Place Finishes At Lycoming Invitational

WILLIAMSPORT, PA. - The Elmira College men's wrestling program recorded four sixth-place finishes on Sunday as the Soaring Eagles competed for a second consecutive year at the Lycoming Invitational hosted by Lycoming College.

Bryan Stafford '26 and Chris Powell '25 both notched their first collegiate victories on the day for the Soaring Eagles.

JUST THE BASICS:

INDIVIDUAL FINISHERS: Berry (6th - 174 lbs), Stafford (6th - 184 lbs), Powell (6th - 285 lbs), Green (6th - 285 lbs Jr./Sr.)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Stafford competed in the freshman/sophomore 184-pound "B Bracket" for the Soaring Eagles and opened his day by dropping a 5-2 decision against Nathan Coon (St. John Fisher). He would rebound in the second round and recorded a 5-2 decision over Joel Zea Marino (Oneonta State) for his first victory wearing Purple & Gold. Stafford's day would end following a loss in the third round via pin.

Powell notched a pair of victories for Elmira as he competed in the freshman/sophomore 285-pound "A Bracket". He opened the tournament on a strong note with a pin just over two minutes into his bout against Zac Stray (Otterbein) before being pinned by Robert West (Lycoming) at the 4:56 mark of his second bout. Powell closed the day with a victory via a major decision over Isaiah Fisher (Otterbein).

Darius Green '24 also recorded a pair of victories for the Purple & Gold wrestling in the junior/senior bracket at 285 pounds. Green opened his day with a pin at the 4:09 mark of his bout against Willard McCracken (Washington & Jefferson). He would turn around in the second round and drop a major decision against John Fulmer (Lycoming) before closing his day with a victory via a medical forfeit against Diego Orellana (Oneonta State).

Hollis Berry '25 competed in the freshman/sophomore 174-pound "B Bracket" and notched a sixth-place finish on the day for the Soaring Eagles. Berry suffered a pair of losses via major decision to open the tournament before dropping a 7-5 decision against Gary Steele (Otterbein).

Blake O'Brien '24 was part of a stacked 141-pound "C Bracket" for Elmira and would advance to the fourth round of competition despite being unable to notch a victory. O'Brien dropped a 6-1 decision to open his day before receiving a bye into the third round. His day would come to an end following back-to-back losses via major decisions.

Caleb Tuttle '26 would go 0-3 on the day as he competed for the Soaring Eagles in the 174-pound "A Bracket". He opened his day with a bout against Dan Cassera (Cortland) and would be pinned before concluding his tournament in the third round against Zachary Miller (St. John Fisher).
