RIT finishes third at DIII Mideast Regionals

ITHACA, N.Y. - The RIT Wrestling team finished third at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regionals this weekend in Ithaca, scoring 112 points for the best finish in the regionals in program history while also qualifying four wrestlers for the NCAA Championships.

Senior No. 12 Colby Giroux (174 lb.) led the way for the Tigers, emerging as the champion of his division by defeating Pennsylvania College of Technology's Isaac Cory by decision in the first-place match to cap a 4-0 meet.

Senior No. 3 Austin Lamb (165 lb.) and sophomore Nate Degroff (285 lb.) each placed second in their weight classes, going undefeated until losing in the first-place match.

Sophomore No. 19 Josh Harkless (197 lbs.) earned a third-place finish, falling by decision in the semifinals but then defeating Centenary's Keevon Barry and McDaniel's Jaedyn Harris to win the consolation bracket and a place in the NCAA Championships.

Senior Ben Dougherty (174 lb.) finished fifth, while graduate No. 19 Christopher Horton (141 lb.) and senior James Ost (157 lb.) had seventh-place finishes. Junior Mike Glynn III (149 lb.) ended the regionals in eighth.


The College of New Jersey won the team competition with 137.5 points, followed by host Ithaca (121.5), the Tigers (112), Centenary (92.5), and Cortland (89.0).

Giroux, Lamb, Degroff, and Harkless will compete at the NCAA Championships in Roanoke, VA beginning Friday, March 10.
