TULSA, OK - Competing in the NCAA Championships for the first time in his career, UB wrestler Giuseppe Hoose was able to advance to Day 2 after winning his match in the consolation bracket.
In his opening bout, Hoose dropped a hard-fought 6-2 decision to 12-seed Abe Assad of Iowa. It set up his match with Hoftra's Jacob Ferreira in the consolation round.
After a scoreless first period, Hoose got a take down in the second period to take a 2-1 lead. The match was tied 2-2 heading to the third period. In the third, after a Hoose escape, Ferreira took a brief 4-3 lead with a takedown. However, Hoose quickly retaliated with a reversal to regain the lead and rode out Ferreira to earn the victory.
Hoose will be back in action on Friday when he faces 22-seed Colton Hawks of Missouri.
