NEWS

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Eight RIT wrestlers were named 2023 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Scholar All-Americans.

Graduate student Christopher Horton, seniors Ben Dougherty, Colby Giroux, Austin Lamb and James Ost, juniors Michael Glynn III and Josh Post and sophomore Josh Harkless were honored.

Horton is a five-time Scholar All-American, while Lamb received the honor for the fourth time. Giroux, Glynn and Harkless are two-time Scholar All-American selections.

The NWCA honored 369 individuals from 88 of the 120 Division III institutions that sponsor wrestling. RIT had the fifth-highest team grade-point average, finishing with a 3.72 team GPA.

"I think the approach we take at RIT to being a student-athlete is validated annually by the recognition our wrestlers receive," said RIT head coach Jason Bovenzi. "The eight young men who were honored provide evidence of the type of student-athlete we continue to attract to our program."

Four teams finished ahead of RIT for highest team GPA honors. WPI (3.76 GPA), Heidelberg (3.766 GPA), Stevens (3.73 GPA) and Johns Hopkins (3.727) finished ahead of the Tigers.

NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer praised the student-athletes, stating, "I am honored to recognize these outstanding individuals who have excelled not only in their athletic pursuits but also in their academic endeavors."

No. 12 RIT finished 25th out of 71 teams at the 2023 NCAA Championships. Giroux (184 lb.) and Harkless (197 lb.) each earned All-American honors.
