Tonight, at this year's Penfield Hunter wrestling tournament, we are honored to announce that we are adding John Leone's name to the Penfield Tournament, and that next year on December 7, 2024, we will be hosting the 57th Annual Penfield Hunter-Leone Wrestling Tournament.
Coach John Leone, who served as the varsity wrestling coach at Penfield High School for 18 years (2001-2019), has many accolades in the sport of wrestling as a competitor, coach and ambassador in this great sport.
In terms of coaching at Penfield High School:
- He coached 4 undefeated seasons at Penfield.
- He coached 8 seasons with 20 or more dual meet wins at Penfield.
- He coached 14 straight NYS Ranked Teams.
- He led a 64 straight dual meet win streak, that ended with a tie score criteria loss.
As the head coach At Penfield he amassed 295 dual meet wins (305 total as a varsity coach).
Over that time John's teams amassed:
- 5 Monroe County League Division Titles
- The 2010 Section V Class AA Team Title
And, he was recently inducted into the New York State Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
