FROSTBURG, Md. - Competing in their final matches of the regular season, the D'Youville University women's wrestling team traveled to Frostburg State University for the Bobcat Open.
Madison Wellen (East Berlin, Pa.) had a strong outing, placing third in the 136-pound weight class. After receiving a bye in the first round, Wellen got her first win of the day over Abigail Miller of Tiffin via fall in 36 seconds. In the semifinal match, Wellen was bested by Gianna Anaya of Emmanuel by an 11-6 decision.
Moving into the consolation bracket, Wellen added another fall, this time beating Aliza Leander of Sacred Heart in 1:23. In the third-place match, Wellen added yet another fall, defeating Brianna Holcomb in 1:05.
Alessandra Elliott (Staten Island, N.Y.) also had a strong day, picking up three wins in the 143-pound weight class. After a bye in the first round, Elliott fell to Zoey Lints of Elmira by an 8-3 decision. Moving to the consolation bracket, Elliott received a bye before getting the forfeit win over Karen Ramirez of Nassau. Elliott then got the 12-0 tech. fall win over teammate Saniyah Ward (The Colony, Texas). Elliott continued her strong day, getting the fall over Skie Roulo of Emory & Henry in 1:04. Elliott's day ended by way of a 13-2 tech. fall to Yasine Oliveria of King.
Emily Sindoni (Nichols, N.Y.) picked up three wins as well coming in the 130-pound weight class. Sindoni received a bye before falling to Bayley Trang of Sacred Heart by a decision. Heading to the consolation bracket, Sindoni picked up three straight falls. Her first fall came against Ashley Asselin of Liberty in 2:48. Her second fall came against Lillie Costilla of Frostburg State in 2:58. Sindoni's final fall came against Anna Dicugno of King in 1:43. Sindoni's day ended against Zoe Gress of East Stroudsburg by via fall.
Ward and Riley Wentlent (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) finished the day with a win each.
The Saints will now focus their attention as they get ready for the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships Northeast Regional on Saturday, February 24th, at Gannon University.
