Sophie Pollack Advances To NCWWC National Championships

Lock Haven, Pa - The Delaware Valley University women's wrestling team competed at the NCWWC Region I Championships on Saturday, February 24th, inside Thomas Field House, hosted by Lock Haven University. The Region I Tournament crowned 10 individual champions (one at each weight) and one team champion. The top-4 finishers at each weight class will earn a spot at the NCWWC National Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The school with the most team score points at the end of the day will be crowned Region 1 Champions. The Aggies competed against Alvernia, Cedar Crest, New England College, Ursinus, Western New England, York, and nationally ranked teams Lock Haven, Sacred Heart, East Stroudsburg, Elmira, and New Jersey City. After a full day worth of competition, Delaware Valley finished the tournament in fifth place out of eight teams with seven individual top eight placers. Senior Bridgette Schoultz and first year Sophia Pollack earned fourth place and punched their ticked to the NCWWC national championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Sacred Heart went on to win the NCWWC Region I overall team title.

Senior Bridgette Schoultz went 4-2 on the day and earned a fourth place finish at 123lbs. Schoultz started off the day with a pin fall victory over Ava Weibley of York. She would go on to drop her quarterfinal match by pin fall. The senior would respond with a pin fall win over Carly Gross of Lock Haven. After losing her consulation semi-final nout by decision, Bridgette Schoultz avenge a previous loss earlier in the day to Megan Edwards of Elmira by a 10-0 technical fall. In the fourth place bout, the senior would prevail as she would earn a 4-1 decision over Kalli Roskos of Ursinus to punch her ticket to the NCWWC National Championships. Schoultz is now a three time NCWWC National Qualifier and a four time NCWWC Region I place winner. The senior is the all time winningest wrestler in program history and she will look continue to add to her win total in Cedar Ra[ids, Iowa.

First year Sophia Pollack went 3-2 on the day and earned fourth place for the Aggies at 191lbs. After losing her first bout by fall, Pollack would bounce back with a win by pin fall over Lindsay Laws of Lock Haven. After a decision loss in the consi-semis, Pollack would defeat Zoe Waters of New England College. In the fourth place bout, Pollack would come through with a pin fall win over Tayana Labady of Elmira to punch her ticket to the NCWWC national championships. Pollack is now a NCWWC national qualifier and will look to continue her impressive freshman season in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Pollack has the most pin fall victories in a single season in DelVal women's wrestling program history.

At 101lb, first year Jesenia Camargo earned sixth place. Camargo came into the tournament as the eight seed and went on to have a record of 2-3 from the day.

At 116lbs first year Josey Wehr finished in seventh place. Wehr entered as the seventh seed and went 2-2 on the day with two pins.

Sophomore Olivia Kinder took home seventh place at 143lbs. Kinder went 3-2 on the afternoon with two wins by pin-fall and a technical fall victory. The sophomore is now is a two time region place-winner and the second wrestler in DelVal program history to have multiple career top-eight finishes in the regional tournament.

First year Gabriella Reid takes home fifth place at 155lb. Reid went 3-2 on the day with a technical fall and two wins by decision. Reid ends the season with a record of 27-12 and earned the most wins for a freshman in DelVal program history.

At 170lb first year Katheryn Martin earned fifth place for the Aggies. Martin went 3-2 on the day with two wins coming by pin-fall. Martin ends the season with a record of 21-16 while wrestling in both 155lbs and 170lbs.
