Alfred State's Malenfant And Levey Advance To Nationals

Rochester, NY - For the first time in program history the Alfred State men's wrestling team have two Pioneers qualify for the National Wrestling Championship. Sean Malenfant earned Regional Champion honors in 184.

Malenfant finished the weekend 5-0 on his way to the Regional Title. Today's action started in the semifinal round, where he secured a spot in the first-place match with a 5-1 decision win over Will Davis (Elizabethtown). In the first-place match, Malenfant trailed 3-1 going into the second period, before notching a takedown to cut the deceit to 5-4 going into the final period. Malenfant would then get an escape to tie the match at 5-5, before notching a takedown to seal the match and get the 8-6 decision win.

Zach Levey was the other NCAA qualifier after finishing second in the 133 bracket. Levey opened the day with a 9-1 major decision win over Danny Haws of Centenary. In the match, Levey tallied a takedown, a four point near-fall, an escape, while getting the extra riding time point. In the first-place match, Levey would suffer a 5-2 decision loss to Isaias Torres of Ithaca.

Blake Ilges secured a fourth-place finish in the 197 bracket after going 1-1 on the day.
