MANHEIM, Pa. - The National Wrestling Coaches Association is pleased to announce the distinguished recipients of the NCAA Women's Wrestling Scholar All-American awards, recognizing outstanding student-athletes who excel in both academics and athletics.
D'Youville University was one of 47 institutions that had members of their respective teams earn the prestigious award. Four Saints earned the award out of the list of 199 scholar-athletes. Adriana Lagoe (Syracuse, N.Y.), Emily Sindoni (Nichols, N.Y.), Madison Wellen (East Berlin, Pa.), and Riley Wentlent (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) all received the award.
Madison Wellen, Freshman 136 lbs. ? Major: Biology
Wellen had a strong freshman season for the Saints, finishing with an overall record of 19-4. Of her 19 wins, 15 came by way of fall. At the Northeast Regionals, Wellen moved through the competition, placing first in the 136-pound weight class. With the first-place finish, Wellen qualified for the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships.
Riley Wentlent, Sophomore 191 lbs. ? Major: Nursing
In Wentlent's first season competing in wrestling, she posted a season record of 10-11. Wentlent went 2-2 at regionals, placing fourth in her weight class. With the fourth-place finish, Wentlent qualified for the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships.
Emily Sindoni, Freshman 130/143 lbs. ? Major: Pre-Med
Sindoni put together a season record of 9-2. Of her nine wins, six came by way of fall.
Adriana Lagoe, Sophomore 130/136 lbs. ? Major: Physician Assistant
Lagoe competed in eight matches on the year, earning her first collegiate victory over Utica College at the New York State Collegiate Championships.
