In a historic move reflecting legal mandates to respect cultural sensitivities, Letchworth Central School will say goodbye to its long-standing mascot the "Indians" and welcome a new era as they become the Letchworth Legends.

New York state has given Letchworth until June 30, 2025 to officially retire the Indian name and image. The expectation is that at the beginning of the 2025 school year, all images of the Indian and Indian name will have to be replaced. From the beginning, LCS has desired that the students be an integral part of this initiative. Several students from middle school to high school were part of the stakeholders group that was created to facilitate the change of the mascot name process.

The actual mascot for the Legends has not yet been decided.
