Cornell Adds Scottie Boykin As An Assistant Coach

NEWS

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell University wrestling program has added Scottie Boykin as an assistant coach, Mike Grey, the David Dunlop '59 Head Coach of Wrestling, announced on Thursday.

Boykin joins the Big Red staff after spending the last two seasons at the United States Air Force Academy. He was a volunteer assistant coach for the Falcons and the head coach of the Air Force Regional Training Center.

"It's an honor to become a part of the Cornell wrestling family alongside coach Mike Grey and Kellen Russell," Boykin said. "I am excited to work with such a talented team and help continue the tradition of excellence."

Boykin spent time in Ithaca from 2019-22 as the head coach of the Spartan Regional Training Center. In that role, he coached several current and former Cornell wrestlers, including three-time NCAA qualifier Julian Ramirez (165 pounds), 2023 All-American Chris Foca (174/184), two-time All-American Jacob Cardenas (197) and two-time NCAA qualifier Lewis Fernandes (HWT).

At Air Force, Boykin had a crucial role in the development of Wyatt Hendrickson, one of the best heavyweight wrestlers in the nation. Hendrickson earned All-American status twice and won two Big 12 Tournament titles with Boykin as his coach.

"I am very excited for Scott Boykin to join our coaching staff," Grey said. "Scott is an excellent addition for our heavyweights, as he coached and developed a two-time Big 12 Champion and All-American in Wyatt Hendrickson at Air Force. He is a great guy and an energetic young coach who we expect to be a resource for our program on the recruiting trail."

Boykin began his coaching career in 2018 as a volunteer assistant at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, where he wrestled from 2013-18. He qualified for the NCAA Championships three times and won two Southern Conference titles.
