Army West Point's Stoddard, Farmer Secure Spot in U23 Pan American Championships

NEWS

GENEVA, Ohio ? At the USA Wrestling U-23 National Championships June 2, Army West Point Wrestling's Lucas Stoddard and Charles Farmer secured their spots in this month's U-23 Pan American Championships, scheduled for June 21-22 in Rionegro, Colombia.

Additionally, by winning the 125kg Freestyle Championship, Stoddard punched his ticket to the United World Wrestling U-23 World Wrestling Championships, slated for this October in Tirana, Albania.

"This is a huge step forward for Army Wrestling. Lucas making a world team is a program goal that we take seriously. He dominated all his matches and took a huge step forward in his individual development. Being able to represent your country in the sport you love is an incredible honor and I know he is excited about it," said wrestling associate head coach Scott Green.

"Charles battled hard all weekend and lost a squeaker in the finals. He will get a chance to represent the country at the Pan Am games and I know he will make the most of that opportunity," said Green.

Stoddard secured a pair of 10-0 and 11-0, technical fall wins in the best-of-three 125kg championship, dispatching Nathan Taylor of Lehigh University in a battle between two EIWA wrestlers.

In the 57kg class, Farmer would fall to Penn's Max Gallagher in his championship series in a pair of decisions, (8-4, 6-3) but still secured a spot on the medal table with a semifinal win over Nebraska's Alan Koehler.

Three additional Black Knights secured All-American accolades at the event. In the U-23 Greco-Roman championships, Joseph Couch placed fourth in the 55kg class and Wolfgang Frable was fourth in the 97kg class. Additionally for Army, Austin Kohlhofer placed seventh overall in the 97kg Freestyle flight.

The program sent 13 total wrestlers in at least one flight. Army finished 4th in team scoring in Freestyle and 18th in Greco-Roman.
