ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) - One of the state's newest girls sports is gaining a major championship.
The New York State Public High School Athletic Association made it official that a full state tournament will be coming to Albany next year. The date will be Thursday, February 27 at MVP Arena in Albany. It's the same weekend as the boys wrestling tournament and coincides with it at the same location. The NYSPHSAA Boys Wrestling Championships will be Friday, February 28 through Saturday, March 1.
In years prior, girls wrestling championship were decided by a limited intersectional tournament instead of the full state. This new move gives girls wrestling the opportunity to shine on its own full day of action.
