Jayhawks Primed for Breakout 2024-25 Season

NEWS

JAMESTOWN, NY - The Jamestown Community College (JCC) wrestling team is looking to improve across the board from 2023-24 to 2024-25, and that started with the opening of the new wrestling room inside the JCC PHED Complex. That new dedicated facility gives this year's Jayhawks a better chance to shine, and that has increased expectations inside the room.

"My goals are to win a lot of matches and try to get everyone on the team to win as many matches and duals as we can. Try to get a championship," said co-captain Gavin Warner. "My goal is to perform to the best of my ability. To perform to how I want to perform. I want to be the best wrestler I can be and everyone else to be the best wrestler they can be," said fellow co-captain Ryan Parton. The Jayhawks head coach Brian Dowdall set his goals even higher: ""Last year we had one guy at nationals (Kyle Keefe). I'd like to have at least three guys qualify and win a match. If we can get all Americans, that would be fantastic."

To make those dreams a reality, each Jayhawk knows it starts and ends with hard work. "It will take a lot of hard work and discipline and a lot of everyone working together to figure it out," mentioned Warner. "It will take a lot of discipline and a lot of determination to be the best wrestler you can be. It isn't just getting on the mat; it is our eating habits and getting your schoolwork done so you can compete," added Parton.

Coach Dowdall is leaning on those co-captains to express to his freshmen what it takes to achieve what they saw in Keefe last year. "It is nice to have guys who can express to the freshmen that college wrestling is hard. They won't know until they get to the first competition. It is one thing for me to say it, but we have leadership that can relay to the room because that is what the competition is doing."

The journey to the national tournement starts with a trip to Michigan for the Adrian Invitational on Saturday, November 2nd.
